This Chinese dragon sculpture is printed as one continuous body that coils into a spiral, with the head raised and the tail sweeping back on itself. Segmented scales, carved whiskers and layered dorsal fins are reproduced straight from the print, then hand finished so the scales read as raised relief rather than flat paint.

The dragon follows the traditional coiled posture seen in temple carving: five claws on each foot, antler-like horns, a pearl held near the jaw, and a mane that flows along the neck. Printing in one piece keeps the body unbroken, so the spiral stays rigid and does not need joining pins.

Finishing is built for Western retail shelves. The body is airbrushed gold or bronze, scales are dry brushed in a deeper tone to bring out the relief, and the mane, whiskers and claws are picked out in contrast paint. A matte or semi-gloss clear coat seals the surface.
